Union Apprenticeship

Northeastern Apprenticeship and Training Program

Local Union 126, IBEW apprentices are thoroughly trained to become skilled
Journeymen Linemen through the highly recognized and accredited
Northeastern Apprenticeship and Training (NEAT) Program
.

NEAT’s 7,000-hour, earn-while-you-learn educational program combines
hands-on classroom instruction
with in-the-field, on-the-job experience
– taught in modern training centers where apprentices learn the most
advanced lineman skills and techniques from the best instructors in the
industry. The NEAT Training Center is located in Douglassville, Pennsylvania.

Through NEAT, apprentices learn to:

  • build foundations;
  • erect poles and towers;
  • string wires;
  • build substations;
  • install street lighting systems;
  • make underground installations;
  • maintain existing electrical service; and
  • replace poles, conductors, insulators, transformers and other apparatus.

Upon satisfactory completion of the N.E.A.T. program, apprentices
become Journeymen Linemen in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers!

NEAT services the entire northeast corridor of the United States, with nine
training centers
. It is administered by the Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship and

for the Outside Electrical Industry, which is composed of
representatives of the union and line construction electrical contractors.
